Pamputtae to Headline Pride Toronto 2023
Following Spice’s controversial debut at Pride Toronto 2022, dancehall artiste Pamputtae has announced that she will be headlining one of the Canadian pride festival’s events this summer.
Pamputtae has been enjoying a resurgence in her career, performing at the return of Sting last year and appearing on Skeng’s Lickle Miss (The Fine Nine Remix) alongside Nicki Minaj, Spice, and a bevy of other female artistes. Days ago, Pamputtae announced that she would be performing at Pride Toronto’s Blockorama After Dark on June 24.
The event is an annual dance party for LGBTQ people of colour. In her Instagram announcement, Pamputtae noted how opportunities are often missed.
“Opportunity is missed by most people because it’s dressed in coverall and looks like work. With that being said, I’ll be performing live at PrideToronto,” Pamputtae stated.

Spice’s performance at the massive LGBTQ event last year, which was referred to as a political statement, drew local criticism from some of her peers in the entertainment industry. Reggae artiste Sizzla Kalonji denounced her attendance at the event, and sound system selector Foota Hype equally condemned her then-planned performance while advising her to return any money she had been paid by the promoters.
