Reports state that Franklyn was first admitted to the Kingston Hospital last year September and a desperate plea for blood in order to aid the senator was made.

It was also stated that ten units per day were needed and any donations should either be made at UHWI or the Blood Bank in the senator’s name.

Although the reason for his admittance at the hospital was not disclosed, Senator Franklyn had mentioned back in 2016 that he had fallen victim to the Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) due to being infected with the mosquito-borne Zika virus. This causes muscle weakness brought on by the immune system compromising the peripheral nervous system.

The 62-year-old was a founding partner of the Wilson & Franklyn law firm, and was outfitted with the title of chief advisor to the Prime Minister of Jamaica, P J Patterson in 1998.
