Dancehall superstar Popcaan was reportedly detained in the United Kingdom (UK) on Monday but has been released, which is the third occurrence since the start of this year. He is booked to perform at the All-Points East Music Festival on Friday in Victoria Park as a special guest to join the Gorillaz on stage, an English virtual band.
In a post shared on the Instagram story, the 876GUD artiste who seemed unbothered, laughed while he showed fans the detainment papers he received. He remarked, “yea once again, seet deh, a dat gwan, Every time man forward a UK dem detain me, an go detain the killy to”.
Similarly, last month, Popcaan whose real name is Andre Sutherland appealed to Prime Minister (PM) Andrew Holness in a video shared on social media after he was detained by immigration officials at an airport in the UK.
In this, he waved a white paper whilst disclosing that he was being held in the UK based on “information sent by my country that I should be stopped every time I’m here”. He then went on to question the reason for this and said, “Mr. Prime Minister of Jamaica, I would like to draw your attention to this once again”.
Similarly, in January of this year, Popcaan shared on social media that he was detained by the UK and claimed that the reason for this was because of information sent by the Jamaican Government advising them that he was a gang leader and had been charged with a firearm.
