On Tuesday, March 22, Prince William and Kate Middleton arrived in Jamaica and they were greeted with mixed reactions from locals. Some believe that the royal couple represents an era in Jamaica’s history “that is unpleasant” for the Jamaican people while others were in awe of the foreigners.

Musician Queen Ifrica was present at the protest that took place in New Kingston, she requested that “Mr. William” speak on the atrocities that “our people” faced during slavery.

Questions were also asked about who would be paying for the trip of the royal couple to Jamaica.

One person commented, “Great to see the fine people of Jamaica speaking out over this issue of Independence. I don’t expect for a minute that they’ll get an apology from these god awful royals as it’s well known that the royals don’t do apologies, nevertheless I hope very much we’ll soon be able to call this proud country ” The Republic of Jamaica ” It’s the correct step forward and hopefully it will be the same for a lot of other so-called commonwealth countries which deserve the choice of having their own “Head of State”.”

On the other hand, many locals were happy to see the royals especially when they took to the streets in Kingston as seen below.
