Dancehall artiste Ruffi is bound on making a name for himself in the music industry and has been doing so by constantly putting out good music hoping to get the best fan connection to propel his career in the right direction.
The entertainer was born in the community of Haddo, Westmoreland, the parish of the great Peter Tosh and told Yardhype that music has always played an important role in his life And ever since his days of schooling at Haddo Primary and Knockalva Technical High, Ruffi says he and his friends would oftentimes have small Deejaying sessions that saw them knocking desks and holding their vibe.
As an inspiration, the entertainer told Yardhype that Bounty Killer was the artiste he looked up to where the skills and technicality of deejaying is concerned, and so Ruffi expressed that he would always display his skills to his classmates in the likeness of the 5 Star General, which earned him his stage name.
As for School, the entertainer says when it was not in session he and friends would venture out to different parts of the community where local Artistes would meet up and watch as they showcase their talents. Ruffi said his presence in the community was also amplified by his appearances with the Phoenix Supreme Sound System with whom he was able to develop and display his lyrical skills.
After leaving High School, Ruffi said he relocated to Kingston to live with his Stepfather. Since the big city was well known as the Mecca of Dancehall Music and many Artistes got their start there, the entertainer said his main aim in the new environment was to strive to make a name for himself there with the assistance of the German High Power Sound System, owned by his Stepfather.
Since his days of toasting on Sound Systems, Ruffi says he has taken his talents to the stage with his many performances across the length and breadth of Jamaica as well as the United States.
In the United States, the entertainer explained to Yardhype that he met artiste/Producer Richie Loops who is well known for the song “What’s In My Cup”, who produced an EP for him called “Diversity” from which the deejay says he got his first hit song entitled “Life”, followed by others such as “Never Forget”, “Come Ova” and “Holiday” which he detailed got a lot of plays during the pandemic.
Regardless of him getting infected with Covid-19 virus in 2021, Ruffi decided to persist with his music, never losing his creative flair, his recovery from the illness saw him getting back into the studio and planning for the year 2022 very meticulously.
As such for the last quarter of the previous year leading into this one, the deejay released a track entitled “Work”, after which he is set to drop another called “Money”, this February and sizzle the summer up with the release of another track by the name “Vacation”.
