The latest capture of a shark in Jamaica is now making rounds online with many persons leaving mixed reactions. Video captured by Fabian Ranaldo shows several men hauling in the sea creature after it was caught on a line/rope.
Multiple footage show what looks like over a dozen men working in tandem to reel in the shark.
It was quite a spectacle, with scenes from above the rocks, showing the shark swimming around in the water while on the line/rope. Other scenes show the shark closer to land and multiple men trying to subdue it.
“A shark wi a ketch todeh yuh hear,” said the man recording the video at one point, as several other older men discussed how best to draw the “rope” to reel in the shark.
“See’him deh, belly wi put him… big helleva shark deh behind mi yaad back… seet deh drown him a drown,” also said the video man as he showed the shark struggling in the water.
As the shark was dragged on to the rocks, the men contemplated what to do next. One person threw a huge piece of rock on the shark’s head as others held the line/rope, another person also had a knife in hand ready to carve the shark open from the belly.
It’s unclear what was done with the shark after it was captured.

The videos which were initially shared on TikTok sparked mixed reactions with many persons calling on the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) to intervene.
“Them ago get problem fi this wait till nepa see,” said one person, another said, “Wait till NEPA sees this. you ppl need to have sense. Remember there are certain rights that constitutes the protection of marine life, am sure y’all know that. u gone eat shark!?.”
On the other hand, someone who was not sorry for the shark asked what would have happened if it was the other way around, “hear di people dem inna di comment a seh dem sorry fi di shark and dem fi let it guh what would happen if that shark catch one of u guys while it,s alive.”
