Shawn Storm Says “Mi mind neva deh a prison”: Reveals Kartel’s Key Advice in Interview

Dancehall artiste Shawn Storm who was recently released from prison after spending almost 13 years behind bars did his first interview after prison release with Isat Buchanan on his Context Matters podcast.
In the interview, the Gaza loyalist talks about his life in prison, Vybz Kartel, the feeling of being freed and reuniting with his loved ones. He also talked about his mental health and a key advice Kartel gave him at the start of his incarceration after being charged jointly for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.
Buchanan asked, “How mentally, did you cope with being incarcerated under the circumstances?” Shawn Storm replied saying, “Mi mind neva deh a prison, mi mind did deh a road… mi neva yet feel like mi deh a prison inna mi mind, just mi body did di deh but mi mind deh a road.”
He next recalled the advice Vybz Kartel gave him on the first day he went to prison. “Vybz Kartel tell mi seh the first-day seh, ‘listen until mi tell you fi fret, lef that pan di guitar'”. According to the Zombie, that statement caused his mind to be at ease like him “deh a road”.
The Portmore deejay also talks about going viral on TikTok with his daughter who convinced him to try a popular challenge. “Mi daughter a show mi seh a this a gwaan now, mi a seh no, that nah gwaan, and she a seh try it probably yuh like it, and mi try it fi har sake… mi neva know it wudda reach weh it reach” he stated.
At one point in the interview, fellow former co-accused Andre “Mad Suss” St. John and Vybz Kartel joined the conversation.
