The fastest woman In the world this year, Elaine Thompson has decided to withdraw from the 200-meter race at the Diamond League in Brussels, where she would have faced off against Shericka Jackson, Dina Asher-Smith and Sha’Carri Richardson who is hoping to make a comeback.
According to Trackalerts.com who received news from close sources of Thompson-Herah’s management, the decision was made to withdraw her to protect an Achilles issue that she has been struggling with for some time.
The source said that the 200-meter race would put pressure on the injury especially on the curve, and that is even the reason why the sprinter did not take part in any further 200 meter races after the Tokyo Olympics.
The showdown in Brussels will still look to put on a quality show as Shericka Jackson will now have to show her excellence on the track as she goes up against Dina Asher-Smith from Great Britain who has already been seasoned in the double sprint race, by running in the event at the Prefontaine Classic, where she dashed to 22.19 seconds to place third.
Sha’Carri will no doubt need to work very hard if she wants to win as Shericka Jackson has been running immaculately in the event, with a personal best time of 21.82 seconds set just this year in Jamaica while Richardson has never broken the 22 seconds barrier before.
The race is set for 2:04 p.m.
