More than 200 children from Shaw Park Heights (Lime Bottom) in Ocho Rios benefited from the kindness of Shericka Jackson on December 26. As the world 200m champion and second-fastest woman in history in the 200m event, she hopes that this will become a regular occurrence and serve as a springboard for launching her own charity.

It was a day of surprises and gifts for the children, school and food items, rides, activities, competitions, and giveaways, including tablets and prizes from the athlete’s sponsors Scotiabank and Purity.

The World Champion explained what inspired the move by stating, “This is my first children’s treat for my community. It came about when I was in Europe and I was thinking that I wanted to do something for my community because I had never done something for this community specifically.”

“Jacko,” also added that she was overjoyed and happy that her first treat was kept in her own community, the track superstar says she plans to keep it more often with added elements next staging. The sprinter said she had done something previously for her mother’s community, but that she also wanted to do something for her own town all along.

“This is very important to me. I know what it feels like not to get anything for Christmas and I wanted to do something for the kids and I think we came up with a good idea and we are all grateful,” she added. During her discourse, Shericka talks about the importance of giving back to the community, which is a priority of hers.

Jackson went on to state that it is of utmost importance to her to offer a helping hand. She voiced that hosting this treat was probably the first time someone from her community ever did something like this and t seeing all the children gathered with their beautiful smiles, makes her want to expand and get more people on board so that they can achieve much more in the future.

Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce recently hosted kids’ treats in their respective communities as a way of giving back as well.
