On Sunday, World Champion Shericka Jackson of Jamaica won her first 200m race of 2024 at a Diamond League meet in Marrakech, Morocco. Jackson clocked 22.82 seconds, contending with a headwind of one meter per second.
Earlier in the year, Jackson pulled out of multiple events, only kickstarting her season two weeks ago in Kingston at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association All Comers meet. Jackson who was running in lane 8 won the 100m race in a time of 11.03.
Sunday’s 200m race was was not an easy win as she was pushed by Ivory Coast’s Maboundou Koné until the final 10 minutes of the race. It was the 29-year-old two-time World Champion’s first at the distance since September 17, 2023, in Eugene, Oregon.
The time clocked is so far her best time of the season with the fact that it’s her first 200m race of the season.
Despite a not-so-fast time, Jackson outlined in a post-race interview that she’s “healthy”, she also talked about the weather and atmosphere at the meet, plus the type of music she listens to to get in the zone for races.
