The event, according to the announcement will feature Dyke March, Bi+ Pride Programming, Blockorama by Blackness Yes, StreetFair, Pride Parade and LGBTQ artistes. The information was posted on Pride Toronto’s Instagram page and by all accounts, the group is happy to have Spice on their lineup and they will also be having the Toronto Flag Raising on June 1, 2022, Cabana Pool Party on June 15, and on June 19 an Island Party. The annual Festival Weekend is set for June 24-25-26, 2022.
Pride Toronto is said to be a not-for-profit organization with a mission to bring people together to celebrate the history, courage and diversity of our community. In their post they wrote, “It just got a lot more spicier in here! The Queen of Dancehall and recent @moboawards nominee, @spiceofficial will be headlining #Pride2022! The news came as a shock to some persons who are pointing out that Spice is not known to promote such type of lifestyle, she even bashed the community in her “Ramping Shop” collaboration with Vybz Kartel whereby she said, “Scorn them”.
Currently, there are divided opinions on this move by Spice with some for while others are against it. The atmosphere in Jamaica has been very much heated where the LGBTQ community is concerned since many including popular selector Footah Hype have stated that they are taking over the music.
What will the public reaction be to this move by Spice? We will just have to wait and see.
