Jamaican dancehall artistes Cutty Ranks, Dexta Daps, Spice, and Supercat are set to appear at this year’s BET Awards ceremony during the organisation’s tribute to hip-hop veteran Busta Rhymes on June 25.

A host of black entertainers will be recognised at the 2023 BET Awards as they highlight black media and creatives in the various fields of music, film, and sports. The show will be staged at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday, with BET organisers honouring hip-hop heavyweight Busta Rhymes for over three decades of contributions to music and black culture.

BET announced on Friday that the rapper would be awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award, which “commemorates industry pioneers who have powerfully shifted culture and the entertainment industry”. Past recipients of the prestigious award include Sean “Diddy” Combs, Whitney Houston, Prince, Queen Latifah, Anita Baker, Mary J. Blige, and Samuel Jackson.

Busta Rhyme’s tribute at the event will include performances by Coi Leray, Rah Digga, ScarLip, M.O.P, Swizz Beatz, and Bia, as well as Jamaican acts Cutty Ranks, Dexta Daps, Supercat, and Spice.

Busta Rhymes, born Trevor George Smith Jr. to Jamaican parents Geraldine Green and Trevor Smith Sr., has spoken about his many Jamaican and dancehall influences in the past. And so it is only fitting that the 51-year-old be commemorated by a blend of the island’s past and present reigning artistes.
