The 2023 BET Awards highlighted black media and creatives in the various fields of music, film, and sports. The show was staged at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday, with BET organisers honouring hip-hop icon Busta Rhymes for over three decades of contributions to music and black culture.

As stated by Busta Rymes during his tribute, the founding father of HipHop is a Jamaican and Jamaica is also in his blood so it was only right that he pays homage to the dancehall culture. Shortly after this speech by Busta, Dexta Daps took to the stage singing his hit song Shabba Madda Pot.
