The wait for Spice’s highly anticipated debut album 10 finally ended and the long wait was worth it. Spice’s debut album ‘10’ was launched on August 6th and the Dancehall Queen’s versility is evident as she showed off her hardcore dancehall style while adding pop, reggae and R&B to the mix.
The 41:01-minute long album pays homage to the star humble beginnings, a contrast to the fast scaling global presence she is now enjoying, highlighted by her feature on Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta.
Shaggy is the executive producer for the 15-track album and it features dancehall veteran, Sean Paul as well. Sean Paul and Spice performed their smash hit “Go Dung Deh” on Many tv shows in America in recent times. Cham also joined her as a dear friend and fellow artiste.
In the new release the queen of dancehall displayed her full artistic range, which means that something is on “10” for everyone. Spice said it is something her fans can play for their mom and grandmother.
Spice is introduced in the first track on the album, and the title of the track is perfect. She then breaks down who Grace Hamilton is as she reconnects with her childhood, growing up in Old Braeton, where she would “Walk and beg a ride.” She remembered being homeless and brought the audience through her first songs, “Fight Over Man” and “Ramping Shop,” she made sure to gave props to Dave Kelly, Bounty, Ninja Man, and Vybz Karte for their help with her career.
The song “Po Po,” is a collaboration with her son Nicholas about injustice in the US, and further inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement that came out more in 2020. The 14-years-old wanted to do a song, and he’s on the record about justice, we should look out for more music from the youngster in the future.
“So Mi Like It”, has racked up approximately more than 99 million views on YouTube already. Spice believes the song is her international breakout hit, it is quite fitting for her debut album, and a prime example of her iconic brand.
Friendships were mentioned through her song “Frenz,” as she conveyed the hurt and disappointment that follow the betrayal of someone who is dear to you.
“Don’t Care” is a reggae song. Detailing a relationship with a toxic man who cheats.
“On Your Mind” is a pop track featuring Olaf Blackwood, Spice has left a lasting impression because of her perseverance and adaptability in the evolving music industry that is constantly changing.
