Student Drown in River While Fishing

A Trelawny student who was 16_year-old drowned when he allegedly fell into a river when he was fishing. He was with a group of boys on Thursday.

The body of Jonathan Eccleston of Perth Town, Trelawny was identified. He was a grade 11 student at the William Knibb Memorial High School in the parish.

The Falmouth police revealed that the group of boys were fishing at a river in Perth Town and allegedly, Eccleston fell into the water and the efforts that were made by his friends to rescue him were not successful.

The incident occurred after Ash Wednesday, during the two-day mid-term break from school.

A search for his body on Thursday was unsuccessful and had to be called off, as it was running late that evening.

However, on Friday morning the body was found after the search resumed.

The search was organised and conducted by members of the Marine Police, the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Coast Guard and the Falmouth Fire Station.
