10-year-old Nikita Noel went missing after she was let out of school on Wednesday. Sparing no time, a search party was formed by both police officers and civilians. Hours after the search began, her lifeless body was discovered metres from her home in Kew District in Lucea, Hanover, later that evening.
After investigations ensued, it was determined that the child had been raped and strangled.
Since then, the Head of the Hanover Police Division for the area, Sharon Beeput, has confirmed that a suspect has been held in connection with the appalling act; however, up until the reports, the identity of the person has not yet been revealed.
In a report by the Jamaica Observer, the Commissioner of Police for the area, Clifford Chambers, has revealed that the suspect in custody may have been known to the murdered child as the person is a friend of the family.
