A distressed father is seeking advice after discovering that his teen daughter is dating someone who is three times her age. Though he has no objection to her having a boyfriend, this revelation shocked him.

When he confronted her privately, asking why she was embarrassing him, she insisted it was not an embarrassment because, unlike her previous boyfriends, this man treats her well. The father reveals that his daughter is 19-years-old while her boyfriend is 71-years-old

When he asked if she was pursuing money, she denied it, stating that the man provided her with the “extras” she desires, like hotel stays. She even revealed he owns a resort and two houses on the north coast, where she has already spent two weekends with him.

As per the father, he feels deeply hurt and betrayed. He had always provided for her and shared a close bond, particularly after her mother left him for another man. His daughter had exposed her mother’s infidelity, which had strengthened their relationship. Yet now, he feels she has followed in her mother’s footsteps, prioritizing material gain over principles.

The father revealed that he contacted the older man directly, questioning the appropriateness of the relationship and asking how he’d feel if his own daughter dated someone his age. The man dismissively replied that it wouldn’t concern him if she were of age.

To make things worse, the elderly man accused the father of acting as though he wanted a relationship with his daughter. The father, stunned, asked his daughter if he had ever behaved inappropriately, which she denied.

However, she brushed off his concerns, assuring him she wouldn’t allow herself to get pregnant.

In the letter to Dear Pastor, published in the Jamaica Star, the father states that tensions at home have escalated. Her brother cannot reason with her, and she has declared herself a “grown woman” who doesn’t need advice.

As a result of her defiance, the father told her she must leave if she refuses to listen.
