Tower Street Prisoner Shot And Killed After Trying To Escape Custody

[Sharingbuttons]An inmate of the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre was shot and killed when he tried to escape custody while on a medical visit to the National Chest Hospital in St Andrew,…reports the Department of Correctional Services (DCS).

The inmate had been identified as Anthony Fletcher.
Reports are that Fletcher who was convicted of murder was taken to the Chest Hospital by prison wardens for treatment. “Following the removal of the handcuffs, the inmate tried to escape and was shot by a correctional officer,” the DCS said.
He fell into the gully that runs along the Chest Hospital where he was removed and pronounced dead by doctors at the hospital.
The Department of Correctional Services said the police and INDECOM are investigating the matter.
