Tropical Storm Watch Discontinued as Ian Retreats from Jamaica
Share
The Meteorological Service Division of Jamaica has announced the discontinuation of the Tropical Storm Watch that was placed on the island when tropical storm Ian was still expected to approach Jamaica on Sunday.
Reports from the Meteorological Service state that over the past several hours Ian has drifted to the south, and with the storm now further from the coastline, Jamaica is currently not in the projected range of tropical-storm-force winds. Therefore, the Storm Watch has ceased effective immediately. Ian is presently moving west and is expected to remain south of Jamaica as it continues its westward movement away from the island through Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Residents of low-lying and flood-prone areas of the southern and eastern parishes are urged to remain alert as Ian is predicted to produce heavy rainfall and thunderstorms that could impact the weather over Jamaica through Monday.
