Rogel Aguilera-Mederos, a truck driver who caused the deaths of 4 persons in Colorado back in 2019 was recently sentenced to 110 years. However, his sentencing sparked a widespread outcry in the USA with Kim Kardashian and several million others vouching for a reduction of the sentence.
According to reports, Rogel was driving a 18-wheeler when its breaks failed causing it to plunge into multiple vehicles that stopped in front of it. The accident resulted in deaths and injuries. Because of this people argued that the incident was an accident and the years given was harsh. These words did not fall on deaf years and clemency was granted to the truck driver, reducing his sentence to 10 years.
After the reduction, Kim thanked Governor Polis, by writing the following, “Thank you @GovofCO for taking action to reduce Mr. Aguilera-Mederos sentence! While his new sentence is ten years, he will now have an opportunity to come home in five years and be with his son and wife.”
Colorado Governor Jared Polis issued a statement to Rogel detailing that, “The crimes you were convicted of are serious. Four individuals lost their lives and others were seriously injured because of your bad decisions.” He continued, “Though your actions have caused immense pain, I am encouraged by your personal reflection and the commercial vehicle safety changes that were made in the wake of this tragedy to ensure this type of event never happens again.”
