Prior to his incarceration, back in 2011, Vybz Kartel “banned” himself from performing in Guyana, he was also banned by Guyana National Broadcasting Association, preventing his music from playing on the radio in the country.
Martin Goolsarran who was the National Communications Network spokesman in Guyana stated that the often violent and lewd content of Vybz Kartel’s songs was the reason for the ban, it was also mentioned that Kartel’s music offers “nothing positive” to entertainment in the country.
In 2011, the Gaza Nation leader stated, “I refused to go there before the ban was imposed so that ban wasn’t necessary. I banned myself. Big up the Guyanese Gaza fans but I would sooner tour Iraq than go to Guyana…. With that being said, I care zero about them and their ban because I won’t be visiting Guyana ever,” to the Jamaica Star.
The ban took place after Vybz Kartel whose real name is Adidja Azim Palmer cancelled multiple performances in the Caribbean territory, citing safety concerns as the reason after alleged death and kidnapping threats from locals.
Almost 13 years later, on August 24, Vybz Kartel via an Instagram story revealed that he will be performing in Guyana in 2025. Notably, he did not make mention of the past remarks and ban.
Instead, he focused on the upcoming event, implying that the ticket cost will be expensive as he also implied about Jamaica’s show ticket costs which are not revealed as yet, “Guyana, next year, a bloodc**t trouble, gwaan save up unuh money yo hear, i’m forwarding,” he stated in the short video clip.
Despite a date not being announced, Guyana is Vybz Kartel’s second announced show since his release, more locations are expected to be announced in the near future.
