Kartel’s ‘Last Hurrah’? Pre-Trial Hearing

Today, June 10 marks possibly the start of the ‘last hurrah’ for incarcerated dancehall star Vybz Kartel who has been behind bars for over 13 years along with three other accused men for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.
Notably, Kartel whose real name is Adidja Palmer and his co-appellants Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Andre St. John, and Kahira Jones won their appeal in the United Kingdom Privy Council earlier this year.
However, despite winning the appeal, Jamaica’s government seems intent on keeping the Portmore deejay behind bars as long as legally possible. This was further set clear at the end of May 2024 after the habeas corpus application for Kartel’s release was rejected and the judge declared that the accused men are still charged with a serious crime.
Following the rejected application, Palmer took to social media with a few choice words, on X, Kartel wrote, “All when wi fall, wi nah bow. June 10th.”
Amidst the court battle, several fans have been calling for the deejay to take a plea deal with one stating, “Play with dem if yuh want bout yuh a guh trial, take the plea, work out a plea deal, that the only way yuh aguh see back road alive… do not fool yo self.”
On the other hand, Kartel’s health is getting worse, “It’s not looking great.. the condition is definitely getting worse,” says Vybz Kartel‘s first son Likkle Vybz in a recent Fox-5 interview.
Lead attorney Isat Buchanan in another interview with Entertainment Report stated, “His heart is worse… the clock is ticking… he wants to go home.”
Rumours of a co-accused flipping
Based on history, it’s unlikely that one of the fellow three accused men will flip on Vybz Kartel, However, it’s not impossible, plus there are rumours online that may be the case in the upcoming trial.
If this was to happen, it would be an unprecedented endeavour which may turn the upcoming legal proceedings on its head. While Shawn Storm and Vybz Kartel have been active on Instagram, the other two men have men under the radar on social media.
According to the prosecution, Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams was murdered at a property in Havendale St. Andrew on August 16, 2011. Vybz Kartel and the other three previously convicted men are being blamed for the killing.
