Rapper Young Thug whose real name is Jeffrey Lamar has been arrested as a part of a grand jury indictment which named 28 members of his record label YSL as being a part of what was described to be a “criminal street gang”.
Alongside being charged for being a part of a criminal gang, the rapper was also booked with the offence of conspiring to violate a federal law set up to battle organised crime.
According to BBC news who initially published the story, the YSL crew has been named as an affiliate of the Bloods Gang and is said to stand for the acronym “Young Slime Life”.
It is understood that things like emojis, hand gestures, lyrics and music videos were used as elements of the indictment to show connections with conspiracy. Also charged with 30-year-old Young Thug is rapper Gunna, real name Sergio Giavanni who had been listed as a part of the 28.
According to the information brought forward by the news medium, some persons on the indictment list were given serious charges ranging from murder to attempted robbery, however, it is said that Young Thug’s lawyer gave a statement expressing his client’s innocence.
The rapper is due to appear in court on Wednesday and is currently being held in the Fulton County Jail in the meantime.
