Neville Lloyd Passard, a 57-year-old Jamaican man has been sentenced in the Cayman islands to serve 8 years and 5 months for 11 counts of defilement and indecent assault on minors under the age of 12.
He reportedly raped three girls, the youngest being four years old.
The presiding judge on the case, Justice Cheryll Richards, revealed that Passard exhibited great character and was trusted by those around him. This was used to his advantage in which he manipulated the victims and on several occasions, they were sexually penetrated, fondled, and forced to perform oral sex on him.
Passard’s gruesome deeds were exposed when the eldest victim informed her mother of the sexual abuse she suffered between the age of seven and eight. In grave detail, she mentioned that at that time, the accused had sexual intercourse with her on two occasions. She further divulged that she and two other girls aged four and five were propositioned by Passard to perform sexual acts on him.
Two days after, the Jamaican national was arrested by the police at the airport after trying to flee to his home country.
The rapist reportedly has four daughters who reside in Jamaica, all of whom have provided statements supporting him for his social inquiry report. In this report, they claim that Passard was a great father to them.
In handing down the sentence, many factors were considered, such as Passard’s numerous health-related conditions; namely high blood pressure, the impact the abuse will have on his victims, his attempts to hide the abuse, and the fact that the sexual abuse took place in the presence of other minors.
Passard was initially given a sentence of 11 years and three months, however, this was reduced to 8 years and five months.
