Airspace Lockdown Causes Cancellation Of 28 Flights To Jamaica
On Wednesday morning only three airlines were able to be landed at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay since the presiding air traffic controllers have implemented measures to have the airspace locked down.
The specific Airlines that were said to have successfully landed on the island are Sun Wing out of Toronto, Frontier from Atlanta and the American Airlines flight coming from Miami. Where the flights that were scheduled to come into Jamaica but cancelled are concerned, 28 were counted. The cause of the lockdown is said to be an industrial action which was noted to be lasting until Friday, May 13 at 7:00 a.m.
As for the ongoing situation, Sharon Hislop from MBJ Airports Limited said that an American Airline Flight had to be rerouted to Miami from the JFK airport, as well as other planes coming from Charlotte, North Carolina and Toronto had to return.
The suspension of Airline services was made public after the director of air traffic management at Jamaica’s Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA), Howard Greaves informed both the country’s Airports that limited staffing at the Kingston Air Traffic Control Centre (KATCC) has forced them to out services until advised further.
