The multi-million dollar lawsuit filed against disbarred attorney-at-law, Jennifer Messado by David Brooks o/c Mavado, has been set to go to trial on March 1-3, 2023.
Mavado’s attorney, Oswest Senior-Smith confirmed the trial dates with the Jamaica Star, whilst also noting that two critical witnesses in the case gave the accused lawyer the various sums on behalf of his client.
Meanwhile, it is not confirmed if Mavado’s request to give testimony via video link while in the United States was approved by the courts. Reports circulated that the entertainer would know whether approval will be granted when the matter is mentioned in court on October 14. However, this has not been disclosed to the public.
In July, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) was tasked by Mavado’s attorney to secure information on whether the entertainer has any warrants out for his arrest in Jamaica. A condition of being approved to give testimony while in the United States is that none is outstanding.
The I’m So Special deejay has publicly declared that his lawyers, both locally and internationally, have been in constant communication with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and no mention has been made of an arrest warrant out for him.
Reportedly, in 2018, the entertainer paid a sum of $30.7 million to Messado who claimed to have the authority to sell a Kingston 8 upscale neighbourhood property on behalf of the owner who was abroad. However, unbeknownest to Mavado, the deal was bogus.
A report was subsequently filed to the police and Messado was charged with obtaining money by false pretence.
She reportedly reimbursed Mavado $7 million of the total amount that was paid.
