Celine Dion Cancels Tour Amid Incurable Neurological Disorder Diagnosis – Watch Video

Canadian singer Celine Dion has canceled her upcoming 2023 European tour following her recent diagnosis of the rare, incurable neurological disorder stiff-person syndrome.

Celine Dion, known for songs such as My Heart Will Go On and I’m Alive, was slated to perform in a number of European cities next year. However, the veteran singer has rescheduled her spring 2023 shows to 2024 to focus on her health. On Thursday, she revealed that after struggling with her health for some time, she was recently diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome (SPS), which the singer says affects roughly one out of a million people.

According to the American National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), SPS is a rare neurological disorder with features of an autoimmune disease. SPS is characterized by fluctuating muscle rigidity in the trunk and limbs and a heightened sensitivity to stimuli such as noise, touch, and emotional distress.

The entertainer disclosed that, as a result of the disorder, she has been experiencing spasms that affect multiple aspects of her life, such as walking and singing. The artiste shared that her current health condition will prevent her from taking part in her planned performances in February, but that she has been working with a team of doctors, including a sports medicine therapist.

The Power Of Love singer shared that it has been difficult not being able to perform.

“It’s been a struggle. All I know is singing, it’s what I’ve done all my life, and it’s what I love to do the most,” she stated.

Noting that she always gives 100 percent during her performances, Dion said that in order for her to return to the stage, she must prioritize her health for the time being.
