Elaine Thompson-Herah Shares Short Message Ahead of Her National Trials Run
Jamaica’s national trials kicked off on Thursday with hopeful athletes, new and seasoned, vying for a chance to represent the country internationally. Ahead of the preliminary round of the women’s 100m later today, Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah shared a message with her followers on social media.
Thompson-Herah’s first half of the athletic season has been turbulent, with the 31-year-old struggling with both new and longstanding injuries. Thompson-Herah recently disclosed that she considered quitting this season, but forever perseverant, the sprinter has chosen to finish the season.
Thompson-Herah took a quick snap of herself driving to trials and shared a playful photo in her Instagram stories, requesting that her supporters wish her luck.
The 2023 national trials will take place over the course of four days at the National Stadium in Kingston. Track and field athletes will be competing for a spot on team Jamaica to represent the island at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, as well as junior competitions such as the Under-18 Commonwealth Youth Games.
Currently the fastest woman alive over the 100m, all eyes are sure to be on Thompson-Herah as she competes in the heat for the 100m today. As defending champions in the 200m and 100m, respectively, her compatriots Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce have already secured positions on the national team for the World Championships.
