Jamaica Lose To Mexico 3-0 In Gold Cup Semi-Final

The Reggae Boyz were on a mission to secure a first-ever Gold Cup trophy and faced the mighty Mexicans on Wednesday for a place in the final. However, the Reggae Boyz fail to meet expectations after faltering to a 3-0 defeat.

Mexico got off to the perfect start when they took full advantage of a sleeping Jamaican defence and took the lead after just 82 seconds into the game through Martin.

The Reggae Boyz had no answer for the Mexican brilliant passing game and their technical attributes, which allowed them to keep the ball in tight spaces forcing the Jamaican team into giving away cheap fouls.

As the footballing gods would have it, the Mexicans got their 2-0 nill through a sublime free kick by Chavez in the 30th minute to put Mexico into the driver’s seat.

Mexico made perfect use of their comfortable lead so early into the game by keeping possession and slowing down the game to their pace. The Reggae Boyz, much talked about front three, offered next to nothing as their offensive went missing the entire first half.

Coach Hallgrimsson made a few changes at the start of the second half; in an effort to turn around the Reggae Boyz fortune.

After the second half started, little improvements were made by the Reggae Boyz against a well-organised Mexico defence, the Jamaican attackers probed for a goal to half the deficit, but none was forthcoming.

The constant fouling and persistent stoppages within the match also helped the Mexico team resulting in the Reggae Boyz chasing shadows for the majority of the semi-final. Mexico’s iconic goalkeeper Ochoa did not have much to do throughout the match due to the lack of creative and goal-threat plays from the Jamaicans.
