8YO Girl Raped and Killed in St. Ann

According to reports, an eight-year-old grade four student of the Discovery Bay Primary and Infant School in St. Ann was raped and killed over the weekend. The suspect of the gruesome act is currently in police custody and is said to be a neighbour of the victim.

The 27-year-old suspect whose name was not released tried to commit suicide after committing the murder, as per the police report.

The victim, Talia Thompson was raped and fatally stabbed minutes after 3 PM on Saturday after being lured to his house by the suspect who is said to be a friend of Thompson’s family.

The incident took place in Discovery Bay, St. Ann. The police were alerted to the scene after neighbours heard loud explosions coming from the premises.

The police have also reported that a total of four locally-made firearms were found at the location.

A teacher from the Discovery Bay Primary and Infant School expressed her shock after hearing the news and informed Jamaica Gleaner that, “I have known Talia from she was in grade two. Very brilliant girl.” 

Thompson recently entered the 2023 Mini Miss St. Ann pageant and is said to be the winner of the Mini Miss Discovery Bay Pageant for 2022.

This latest killing has marked the third murder of an eight-year-old in Jamaica since 2023. On June 8, Danielle Rowe was abducted and fatally injured. While the first killing of an eight-year-old in Jamaica in 2023 took place back in February when Nikita Noel was raped and strangled.
