Hamas officials have estimated that approximately 200–250 people were taken in the attack, which left hundreds dead. Hamas quickly released horrific videos of their deceased victims to the public, but the state of their hostages was left unknown.

On Monday, the militant group released their first video of one of their hostages. The hostage, 21-year-old Mia Schem, was filmed receiving medical aid while lying in bed.

As someone out of the frame changed her bandages, a large gash that was stitched could be seen on the French-Israeli woman’s arm. Schem went on to disclose that she is being held in Gaza and that a three-hour surgery was conducted on her after she was badly injured during the attack.

Schem said that her captors have been taking care of her, but her mother has since expressed her belief that Hamas told her what to say. Schem asked to be returned home as soon as possible, stating, “To my family, to my parents, to my brothers, please get me out of here as soon as possible, please, thank you.”
