At around 3 PM yesterday a 24-year-old opened fire at Charles University in the Faculty of Arts building. Police arrived at the destination after being alerted and the shooter, David Kozák (not officially identified by police), is said to have committed suicide.

When the shooting began, pictures of students huddling on the ledge of a building to get away from the gunfire were captured.

According to authorities, Kozák was a philosophy student at the university and was described as a good student with no prior criminal activities, however, it is also believed that leading up to the mass shooting, Kozák had killed his father in Hostoun earlier that day.

He is also suspected of killing a two-month-old girl and a man a week before.

Kozák was a licenced fire-arm holder and had posted several troubling messages online including the statement, “I hate the world and want to leave as much pain as possible,” which leads Police Chief Martin Vondrasek to believe the act was premeditated.

An investigation is being done to rule out Kozák being killed by police officers returning fire.
