“Bunny” Shaw Recounts Not Taking Football “Serious” While Younger – Watch Interview

Manchester City ace striker, Khadija “Bunny” Shaw recounts her early college years in America, Shaw admitted that during those initial parts of her footballing career, she was not interested in the sport she has now come to dominate.

The 26-year-old is currently in her third season with Manchester City and has already broken several records for the English-based team.

According to Shaw, via an interview, garnering a college degree was the main focus in her early footballing years, she explained stating, “Because my family couldn’t afford for me to pay through college so my aim was to just get my college degree go get a regular job and help my family, that was my route.”

She says she was just free-flowing and enjoying her football in college, which made her perform at her best. The striker went on to reveal that she was not aware, of the impact she would have on women’s football and Jamaican football, despite the many offers coming her way at the time.

Following securing her degree, which Shaw and her parents were keen on, she landed a professional contract in France, Bordeaux. However, Shaw revealed how playing football in France ‘was a struggle.’ The veracity of the cultural struggles faced by the Jamaican footballer ultimately led her away from the French club.

“I was like, okay, one more year am just going to push through this last year because I knew that I was not going to stay in Bordeaux, but my teammates were great, the coaching staff was great, but I just think the culture was not for me, and I just told myself one more year am going push through am just going to make the best of it and I got leading goal scorer, Team Of The Year, and then, yeah,” Shaw recounted.
