A federal jury on Friday ruled that former president Donald Trump is responsible for paying advice columnist E. Jean Carroll an astonishing $83.3 million for defaming her in 2019 when he denied her allegations of sexual assault and stated that people should pay dearly for making false accusations against other individuals.

A $18.3 million compensatory damage award was made to Carroll, and a $65 million punitive damage award was also granted. Following several days of testimony and arguments, the jury deliberated for just three hours, as per the report.

Carroll’s lawyers had asked the anonymous panel of nine jurors that would determine the former president’s fate that they seek heavy damages against him and the panel obliged. In response to the jury’s verdict, Trump, who left the Manhattan courtroom before it was read, raged on social media and vowed to appeal the ruling.

Trump responded to the decision via Truth Social, stating, “Absolutely ridiculous! I fully disagree with both verdicts, and will be appealing this whole Biden Directed Witch Hunt focused on me and the Republican Party. Our Legal System is out of control, and being used as a Political Weapon.”
