In the upcoming FIFA match window, the Reggae Girlz are set to face Brazil, South American giants, in two friendly internationals. As per the Jamaica Football Federation’s post, Friday night, the first game is scheduled for June 1 in Recife, followed by the second match in Salvador on June 4.
These games hold significance for Brazil, who are gearing up for the Paris Olympic Games this summer. For them, these matches will serve as crucial preparation games before the event. Similarly, the Jamaicans aim to utilise these matches to refine their young squad for upcoming major events.
In the announcement, the JFF stated, “Our Senior Women’s National Team, the Reggae Girlz, will play Brazil in two international friendlies in June. The games will be on June 1 and June 4 in Recife and Salvador. Information in relation to kick-off times and squad will be revealed in due course.”
It’s worth noting that Jamaica drew 0-0 with Brazil in a memorable encounter at the FIFA Women’s World Cup last year, a result that contributed to their historic qualification to the second round. According to Fifa, Jamaica Girlz ranks 42nd in the world while the Brazil female team ranks 10th in the world. On the other hand, Jamaica Men’s national team ranks 55 in the world.
In the comments area of the post about the upcoming matches, supporters have been asking for the return of the ‘World Cup Girls’, led by Khadija Monifa ‘Bunny’ Shaw. One person requested, “PLEASE JFF WE LOVE JAMAICA 🇯🇲 PLEASE BRING BACK THE TEAM AN TGE NEW ONES THATS WANT TO PLAY AS WELL.”
Another stated, “Waste a time if is not the World Cup squad… jff went and set women’s football back 10 years 🤦🏾‍♂️.”
