For the first time in history, a 60-year-old woman has won the Miss Universe Buenos Aires pageant.
Last week, Alejandra Rodríguez, an Argentinian lawyer, emerged as the crowned winner after competing against 34 other women, whose ages ranged from 18 to 73.
Following her glorious win, Rodríguez indicated that this is only the beginning of a new chapter for the Miss Universe pageant, wherein the spotlight is being shined on other values and not only a woman’s beauty.
According to People, she expressed her joy at representing the “new paradigm in beauty pageants.”
In September 2023, the Miss Universe pageant introduced a change in the age limits for contestants. Previously, only women aged 18 to 23 were eligible; now, any woman over 18 can compete.
People, citing information from The Independent, reported that Rodríguez expressed, “I think the judges saw my confidence and my passion to represent the women of my generation.”
Rodríguez, who is also a journalist from La Plata, added that she is determined to win Miss Universe Argentina 2024, which is slated for May 25. Should she be crowned, she will compete for the worldwide title in Mexico City in September.
