Diddy, born Sean Combs, released a public apology on Sunday in light of the 2016 surveillance footage showing him violently attacking his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. Cassie recently filed a lawsuit against Diddy with numerous allegations, including abuse by the American music producer.
Diddy’s representative denied the allegations made in the lawsuit, which was later settled.
The video went viral right after it was released by CNN and has since sparked public backlash. The music mogul has now indicated that the footage, which was captured at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles, shows him during one of the darkest times of his life.
“It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you gotta do that. I was f**ked up. I mean I hit rock bottom, but I make no excuses. My behaviour in that video is inexcusable,” he said in the video. “I take full responsibility for my actions in that video.”
Continuing, he expressed that he was “disgusted” by his actions back then and still feels that way. He noted that, following the incident, he went to therapy and rehab.
“I had to ask God for his mercy and Grace. Am so sorry. But Am committed to being a better man each and every day,” he stated. “Am truly sorry.”
His apology was posted to his Instagram account with the words, “I’m truly sorry.”
