Jackson’s exit was announced on Wednesday and comes amid concerns about her health. The 200m world champion had seemingly suffered an injury earlier this month in the women’s 200m race at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial.

Initial reports early Wednesday morning stated that sports journalist Kayon Raynor, Ludlow Watts, Jamaica’s athletic manager, confirmed that the sprinter will not be contesting the sprint double at the ongoing Games.

In the interview published by TVJ on July 31, she stated, “it’s a combination of a lot of stuff, as i said, coach and i made that decision not to contest the 100m and a think we are pretty happy with that,” she also replied to question about pulling up during her last race.

Following Jackson’s exit, Jamaican sprinter Shashalee Forbs has been entered as her replacement. In regards to Jamaica’s 4x100m relay team, a decision on whether reinforcements will be called in will be made by tomorrow.

“We are actually actively looking at that possibility and by the end of the day or early tomorrow we should know what position we have taken,” Watts stated.

During an interview released yesterday, Jackson’s coach, Stephen Francis, was hesitant to talk about the athlete’s fitness but said she appeared to be okay.
