The sacking comes on the heels of the 2-1 controversial defeat to West Ham on Sunday in the Premier League and one of the club’s worst starts to the league in decades. United is currently sitting at 14th spot on the EPL table.

A part of the released statement reads, “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager… Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited..

During his time at the club, Erik won two English trophies, the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

Erik was given the highly scrutinised job back in April of 2022.

The last four appointed managers have had one good season and one bad season with each leaving after two years and some months at the club.
