Best Reggae Album Nominees: Buju Banton, Beenie Man, Julian Marley & Antaeus, Burning Spear and Collie Buddz

The Recording Academy announced today, November 10, the albums nominated in the category for Best Reggae Album for the 66th Annual Grammy Awards. Vying for the title are Born for Greatness by Buju Banton, Simma by Beenie Man, Colors of Royal by Julian Marley & Antaeus, No Destroyer by Burning Spear, and Cali Roots Riddim 2023 by Collie Buddz.

Simma is Beenie Man’s 17th studio, 19-track album which was released on August 31, 2023. It features collaborations with local and international artistes and reportedly sold 500 units in the US during its first week. In 2001, he secured the title with his album, Art and Life in the Best Reggae Album category.

In 2011, Buju Banton claimed the top spot with his 10th studio album, Before the Dawn, which was released a year before. His last nomination was in 2020 for his album, Upside Down, making this his 7th nomination overall.

Nominated twice in the category is Julian Marley with his albums, As I Am and Awake. The Colors of Royal collaboration between the two entertainers will mark Antaeus’ first nomination

Burning Spear is also no stranger to the competition as he has been nominated a total of 13 times. He has won the title twice for his 1999 album, Calling Rastafari, and 2008, Jah Is Real.

Lastly, this nomination in the category is the first for Bermudian Reggae artiste, Collie Buddz. His album, Cali Roots Riddim 2023 is a 23-track compilation that also features Jamaican deejay Busy Signal on A Thousand Times.

The voting finale will be between the period December 14, 2023, and January 4, 2024. Grammy winners will be announced on February 4, 2024, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.
