Demarco Makes Resurgence in Dancehall

Demarco has been making an impressive resurgence in the dancehall industry, garnering massive attention with some of his recent songs. Demarco’s groovy singles Jancrow and Charge fi yuh have accumulated hundreds of thousands of views together, nudging the deejay closer to the forefront of dancehall again.

Jancrow is an upbeat track in which the deejay boasts about his flashy lifestyle, a roster of women, thuggish ways, and success in lottery scamming. While highlighting the different aspects of his life, he sarcastically refers to himself as a “jancrow.” The energetic music video has garnered over 206K views on YouTube since being released last month.

Meanwhile, Charge fi yuh focuses on more life-threatening topics, such as protecting oneself from harm that might be inflicted by friends or foes. The Ajal-produced(@producerajal) song touches on wicked friends, jealousy, and defending oneself with a firearm when the time comes. On YouTube, the music video has garnered over 108K views since its release in July.

Demarco’s musical journey as a versatile artiste has spanned over a decade. Demarco, whose real name is Colin Demar Edwards, was born in Portmore, Jamaica, and his passion for music developed from an early age. He began honing his skills as a songwriter and producer, creating beats and composing lyrics. In his teens, Demarco pursued his dream of becoming a dancehall artiste, embracing the stage name “Demarco.”

He quickly gained recognition for his unique style and lyrical prowess, making waves in the Jamaican music scene. He gained national recognition with his 2007 hit song, Fallen Soldiers, which instantly topped the country’s singles chart. He continued to drop infectious tunes that became hits, such as Love My Life (2011) and a 2014 banger for the ladies called Puppy Tail.

Although dancehall continues to change, Demarco proves that he has what it takes to keep up with the ever-evolving genre.
