The users of the longstanding social media platform Facebook (FB) have taken to the internet to report that the application is down in many regions across the Americas, Europe, and some places in the Caribbean.
There have been a number of people stating that their app does not load, they cannot log in, and even if it does load many of the pages come up blank. Most people affected said that the app works fine on their cellular devices but will not work on their laptops or desktop computers.
Some of the areas listed as being affected are California, Los Angeles (LA), Montana, Ohio, Virginia, North Florida, Kansas, Georgia, and areas in Jamaica.
According to Downdetector, the issues began at about 18:30 GMT (14:30 ET) on Friday.
Affiliate application Instagram also had users reporting that they are having a few issues with making posts on Instagram. A few individuals have also stated that they are having a hard time sending media such as voice notes, images, and videos on Whatsapp.
With regard to Friday’s issues, Facebook released a small statement on Twitter stating, “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
This is not the first time that Facebook has crashed. In October 2021, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, all now Meta, were reported to be down worldwide for an average of six hours. At the time, the company issued a statement on Twitter to let users know that they were working on the issue, and a formal apology was also issued by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
The reason for the apps’ giving problems or when everything will be back in pristine working order is not yet known. There has been no formal updates from Meta.
