After showing signs of mental distress, a female foreign national reportedly took her own life on Tuesday while being held in Westmorland at a police station.
The woman’s identity has not yet been disclosed, but she is believed to be a citizen of the United Kingdom.
Reports from Radio Jamaica News state that prior to her death, she had displayed suicidal intentions and attempted to jump to her death from where she was initially staying.
Following the attempt to take her own life, the woman was then taken to Negril Police Station out of concern.
While there, she requested to use the bathroom, and after some time, officers realised that she had not returned.
She was later found with the belt of her bathroom robe around her neck and pronounced dead by a medical team.
