Jamaica vs. Dominican Republic Ends 1-0

Jamaica‘s first match of the new World Cup Qualifying campaign was against the Dominican Republic on Thursday at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. The match ended with the Reggae Boyz scoring one goal while the Dominican Republic was unable to score.

Notably, as a result of the 3:30 PM kick-off time the stadium was scanty, with most of the noise coming from a band that was located in the bleacher of the event. Notably, the Boyz including head coach, Heimir Hallgrímsson have called on Jamaicans in recent times to come out and support the team, because the support is usually less than adequate.

Jamaica scored in the 16th minute via a counter-attacking move involving Cephas on the left wing which was finished off by striker Shamar Nicholson. “Cephas was an absolute beast and nightmare to the defence,” stated one of the commentators of the match.

Jamaica had a chance to go up by two goals in the 72nd minute of the match via a penalty, however, Jamaica’s number 10, Bobby Reid was unable to find the back of the net, forcing an excellent save from the Dominican Republic goalkeeper.

In terms of the run of play, Jamaica had the better game with more chances to score. As the commentator states R. Cephas was the most dominant player on the field getting a rank of 7.9 out of 10 by Sofascore, the highest rank for any player who played.

As a result of the win, Jamaica is now level at the top of Group E, however, Guatemala has a superior 5-goal difference.
