Jamaica vs. Venezuela Today: “We go for the win” Says Coach Hallgrimsson

Reggae Boyz’ head coach, Heimir Hallgrimsson expressed that his team will be aiming for the first win of the 2024 Copa America tournament against Venezuela on Sunday, June 30. “We go for this game for the win, we go for the win,” Hallgrimsson stated in a pre-match press conference.
He went on to outline that the Boyz are upbeat despite the disappointing tournament so far. He also pointed out that he believes the team “matched” Mexico and Ecuador on the field and was unfortunate not to get a positive result in the past two games.
“It’s important for us to get a win,” he also stated before expressing that “margins’ out of their control caused the pointless campaign so far, alluding to referee controversial decisions, notably not getting a penalty in the last match against Ecuador after the ball was seemingly handled in the box.
According to the coach, it’s paramount that the Boyz stay focused in the last match because they have not done so in the past matches in the tournament, he called most of the goals against the Reggae Boyz “a fluke” because they are goals that could have been prevented.
As per the latest Fifa rankings update on June 20, Jamaica Men’s National football team jumped two places, from 55ft to 53rd. Notably, Venezuela will be the lowest-ranked team in Group B which also has Mexico, Ecuador, and Jamaica. However, Venezuela is ranked just one place above Jamaica at 54th in the Fifa rankings.
Jamaica’s best Fifa rank was 27th, back in 1998 when they went to their first and only World Cup. Jamaica is looking to gain their first point after 8 games over 3 different tournaments. The match is scheduled to kick off at 7 PM Jamaica time.
