More than two years after being brutally attacked, 19-year-old Kaylan Dowdie continues her road to recovery and has taken her first steps in physiotherapy since the incident.
Dowdie was reportedly beaten and stabbed by five women at a party in Boysie Lane off Barbican Road in Kingston on November 7, 2020. The then-17-year-old required life support and remained in a coma for multiple weeks following the attack.
Requiring extensive medical care during her 18 months in the hospital and after her release, Dowdie’s mother, Veneshia Buckley, was left with a $41 million hospital bill. Buckley has spoken openly about the struggles she has faced throughout her daughter’s recovery and occasionally shares updates about her progress on social media.
Buckley has shared that Dowdie took her first steps since the attack on Monday and posted a short clip on Youtube of the teen in physiotherapy walking to her wheelchair with the aid of parallel bars and two medical assistants.
