This large margin of victory sees Aston Villa having one foot cemented in European competition this season; it would be nothing short of a miracle for Hibs to mount a comeback at Villa Park in the return leg.

Ollie Watkins headed the English side in front in the 17th minute, then grabbed another in the 33rd minute. Jamaican starlet Leon Bailey then finished off a move he started to give a 3-0 lead to close the first half.

Three minutes into the second half, Watkins wrapped up his well-deserved hat-trick after an intervention from VAR. Villa piled on the pressure on the Scottish side as they offered nothing on the offensive end. Hibs then aid in their downfall by conceding a penalty in minute 73; Douglas Luiz made no mistake from the spot to put Villa 5-0 up.

Also staring for Aston Villa was Digne, who had a hat-trick of assists in the first half to give his side a comfortable lead going into the second leg next week.
