Mariah Carey’s Mother and Sister Die on the Same Day
American singer Mariah Carey who is well known for her extraordinary vocal range, is grappling with unimaginable grief as her mother, Patricia, and sister, Alison, tragically passed away on the same day. The heartbreaking news was confirmed over the weekend.
In a statement, Mariah, 55, expressed her devastation: “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.” She added, “I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed.”
Mariah’s relationship with her mother was famously complicated, described in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, as a “prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration, and disappointment.” Despite the ups and downs, their bond remained intact, and Mariah acknowledged her mother’s efforts in raising her.
The relationship with her estranged sister Alison was even more fraught, marked by legal disputes and emotional distance. Mariah admitted that it was “emotionally and physically safer” to avoid contact with Alison.
The causes of death for Patricia and Alison remain unknown, and Mariah has asked for privacy during this deeply painful time.
