Maroons Control Safest Territories in Jamaica Said PM Holness

Following up on the many challenges the Maroons of the cockpit country have been going through, the recent public statement of Minister of Security Horace Chang, stating that Maroons have no land, has sparked an islandwide conversation however, Chief Richard Currie is not having it.

In two of his most recent posts, the Maroon Chief showed videos of Prime Minister Andrew Holness expressing the importance of the indigenous culture and the Government’s respect to the land they own in the Cockpit Country. Both videos were speeches made several years ago, however, Richard Currie did manage to dig them up.

The first video Currie posted concerning the Prime Minister, showed the leader of the country giving a speech about the importance of the Cockpit Country, making it clear that it was the place that the British were defeated and could not go.

Prime Minister Holness, went on in his vocal dissertation, to state that the sensitivities concerning the area are not just Environmental but also historical and cultural. With that said he expressed that the cries of the Maroons have been heard, and so no environmentally damaging act cannot be done without a thorough study.

In the caption of the photo, Currie wrote; “Is the Minister of National Security Horace Chang @horacechangjm in another Jamaican Government or does he operate independently of his Prime Minister?”.

He then went on to question the structure of the Government as well as pointing out that the video show that the Prime Minister is aware of the Maroons, then continued by telling the wrongfully informed Minister that “maroons are still waiting for a PUBLIC APOLOGY from @horacechangjm”.

The second video that Chief Richard Currie posted concerned Prime Minister Andrew Holness talking about the fact that maroons control the safest lands on the island due to their culture. He then went on to commend them, by letting it known that, in their population of 2-3 thousand people, there has not been a murder recorded on the statistics.

In the caption of that post Richard Currie wrote, “This is not because of @jamaicaconstabularyforce this is because we Maroons know how to govern ourselves and our territory. This is our way of life.”

Statements like those made by the chief, are sending a warning to those in opposition against the freedom and security of his people, especially those who have been intruding on their lands.
