Accompanied by armed security forces, the National Security Minister, Dr. Horace Chang and the Commissioner of Police, Major General Antony Anderson, Grange condemned the murders that have wreaked havoc in the constituency, causing innocent lives to be lost.

She declared that for the last decade, there has been “relative peace” and credited this to the implementation of social intervention programmes that have granted at-risk youths with life-changing certifications and skills.

Grange alleged that the recent flare-up in murders is due to problems within the adjoining constituency. She shared that outside persons have relocated to the St. Catherine Central constituency, resulting in greater tension and a spike in drive-by shootings.

“One element from the adjoining constituency have their internal conflicts. People move out of that community, it is said that they move into this constituency and it is creating tension between both,” she said.

A reporter posed the question to Grange to confirm if the break-away faction of the One Order Gang is responsible for the violence in the parish. She quickly dismissed this by stating that she is not a member of any gang and has no knowledge of gang affairs, therefore, she would not be able to comment.

“Well I am not involved in a gang so I can’t tell you that if it is a breakaway fraction from a gang,” Grange said.

The Minister indicated that once there are incidents connected to communities that are in strong support of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), people assume that the One Order Gang is responsible. However, Grange went on to say that these gang members are now focused and have been improving their lives.

On the other hand, Dr. Horace Chang asserted that community members and the police need to collaboratively work together in tackling the criminal activities in the parish.
